Definitely Worth Checking Out: Pimps of Joytime

Pimps of Joytime

I'm going to get back in the saddle here and try to post at least a couple of things a month here. Nothing elaborate, just links to songs and/or bands that fill my ears with sweet, sweet happiness.

So, getting on with it, another group that I found on MySpace a few months ago, The Pimps of Joytime.

A couple of clips from their YouTube channel.

Or, check them out on iTunes:

Worth Checking Out: Pacha Massive

Image Source: Nacional Records

I was grazing MySpace Music this morning and stumbled across a few bands whose songs will be soon added to my collection. First one is Pacha Massive, a band from the Bronx that plays what they describe as a "rhythmic blend of funky Latin jams with Colombian cumbia, Afro-Cuban son, Jamaican reggae-dancehall, dub and drum-and-bass". That sounds about right. They have a number of their songs available for mini or full preview on their MySpace profile. Below are iTunes links to the ones that I was digging most.

* Don't Let Go
* Cruisin'
* Al Ritmo de Pacha
* Pachaqueando

USA 2.0 Mashup - Laotian Rap

Another tip from Current TV, and [of course] YouTube. Actually, it's not bad, either. Move Some'm, by Lao Crimino.

You Should Check Out Gonzales:
The Jewish-Canadian Hip Hop Prankster

Photo source: TuneTribe

His name is Gonzales and he hangs out with Puppetmastaz.
Saw him on Current. Reeled in by the subtle brilliance of declaring himself a "Jewish-Canadian Hip Hop Prankster", I found a little more on YouTube [of course]. Learned that Mr. Maloke [in top hat, below], announced the Congress of Puppetry, in Berlin.

Not for nothing, but Gonzales looks a bit like a cross between Lou Ferrigno and Bronson Pinchot.

Helsinki Complaints Choir

Saw a pod on Current a couple of weeks ago, then was prompted to check YouTube for it when I saw the repeat. You can learn more about the project here. Haven't seen them all yet, but there is something oddly catchy about the Helsinki version. Love the line about idiots on the escalator. Feels like some kindred Finnish soul represented my personal griefs for me.
